Version 2.0

August 4, 2012

Version 2.0 was submitted on Saturday August 4th, it is in the process of review for distribution in the App Store. As posted previously, the application was going to be updated to version 1.1.6, but plans changed. Instead, I decided to take on a larger task and rewrite the application all together. What does this mean for you?

  1. The most significant change is that database of the app will no longer be found within the application bundle, instead it will be accessed online. Your device will download and save the database locally the first time you launch the app.

It will also check for changes to the database and queue you to download the new version whenever one is available. This means that changes to the database will no longer require an update to the app. (T.L.D.R.) Faster updates to the database!.

  2. Version 2.0 will include all changes promised below, which by the way were mostly changes to the database, not the app itself.

  3. The application will have a new color and a new name, Fire Station App for iPhone & iPad (go figure).

  4. Bad news, you need to upgrade your iPhone or iPad to 5.0 or newer to continue to use the app.

I am anticipating submitting the 2.0 update to the Apple App Store by this Friday, August 3rd. It takes the App Store team approximately one to two weeks to review and approve the app.
